Learning About Cosmetic Surgery

If you’re searching for information about rhinoplasty or other cosmetic surgery, one of the best places to start is with a breezy-reading book about rejuvenation surgery.

We are fond of such books, provided they are written for consumers and not in technical medicalese.

Our cosmetic surgery patients receive a discount on surgery if they have read our own book before the procedure. Our tomes, Secrets of a Beverly Hills Cosmetic Surgeonand its sequel, “The Essential Cosmetic Surgery Companionwill tell you in plain language what it’s all about.

Why? Statistics reveal that many plastic surgery patients put more research into buying a dishwasher than selecting their plastic surgeon.

(Especially useful: “Five money saving tips on any cosmetic surgery section.)

We wrote the books assuming readers know little, if anything, about rhinoplasty or plastic surgery.

The “Companion…” book is actually a workbook with blank human faces and bodies for surgeons to draw in exactly where incisions go. Handy, on-point suggested questions to ask plastic surgeons are also included.

The workbook theme was also used in a colleague’s book, “The Beverly Hills Shape,” about cosmetic plastic surgery procedures of the body.

The Internet is also a great source of information, but then, anybody can print anything there.

If you are searching for information about a nose job, use one of the following search terms: rhinoplasty, nose job, non-surgical rhinoplasty or rhinoplasty specialist (alone or with your city’s name). If your first rhinoplasty failed, search rhinoplasty revision or secondary rhinoplasty.

If you seem to have breathing blocks, search for:

(A bent or deviated septum requires delicate surgery to unblock the breathing channels in the nose. Turbinates are structures farther up in the nose that can require equally delicate surgery.)

Also, look for Internet surgeons who offer at least ten years experience and hundreds of before and after plastic surgery pictures.

Be sure and check for a fellowship, an arrangement where newer surgeons sign on with older, more experienced cosmetic plastic surgeons to intensely practice actual cosmetic surgery. Medical schools tend to concentrate on teaching reconstructive plastic surgery.

Other good consumer books about rejuvenation surgery include:
